Exploring New Horizons: My Journey In Enable India

As a budding psychologist, I thought I had a good grasp on the various domains of mental health. However, my experience at EnAble India opened my eyes to an unexplored realm - working with Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). This journey has been both challenging and immensely rewarding, pushing me beyond my comfort zone and expanding my professional horizons.

One of the most exciting aspects was diving into scale development. Creating assessment tools tailored for PWDs required a complete paradigm shift in my approach. I had to consider factors I'd never thought about before - like how to make scales accessible for those with visual or auditory impairments. This experience taught me the importance of inclusive design in psychological assessments. Conducting sessions with PWDs was another eye-opening experience. I quickly learned that my usual communication strategies needed adaptation. Whether it was using more visual aids for those with hearing impairments or simplifying complex concepts for individuals with cognitive disabilities, each session was a lesson in flexibility and creativity.

This journey has not only enhanced my professional skills but also deepened my empathy and understanding. Working with PWDs has taught me that disability is not a limitation, but rather a different way of experiencing the world. As I continue on this path, I'm excited to further explore this domain and contribute to making mental health support more accessible and inclusive for all.
